Hick Signs Lee Bill Giving In-State Tuition to CO Veterans
(May 1) – A bipartisan bill by Rep. Pete Lee, D-Colorado Springs, to provide in-state tuition for Colorado’s veterans, their spouses and eligible dependents was signed by Gov. John Hickenlooper this morning.
HB15-1294, also sponsored by Rep. John Keyser, R-Morrison, brings Colorado law in line with new federal guidelines requiring all public education institutions to expand benefits and provide in-state tuition to veterans and dependents living in their states as a condition of receiving federal aid. The bill secures $55 million in federal financial aid for Colorado’s public colleges and universities through the GI Bill.
“Providing in-state tuition to our veterans and their families is the right thing to do,” Rep. Lee said. “This will attract veterans to Colorado and ensure they and their families have access to Colorado’s colleges and universities.”
